Welcome to TOSCOT

TOSCOT To Merge With CPCA

Message From The President

At the Annual General Meeting in May, the Board of TOSCOT received a mandate from the membership to enter into discussions with the Canadian Paint and Coatings Association (CPCA) and the Oil Colour and Chemists Organization of Ontario (OCCO) about completing a merger with either group. After further meetings with both organziations over the summer, the Board came to the decision that a merger with the CPCA was the best course of action to ensure the survival of our Society.

The Board then convened a special general meeting on October 19th for a membership vote on a proposal to merge TOSCOT into the CPCA. I am pleased to announce that the motion passed by a large majority.

This decision ensures that we will continue to accomplish the organization's founding objectives of introducing new technologies and educating the paint and coatings industry under the umbrella of a strong an vibrant professional organization. Under the proposal presented to the membership by CPCA President, Jim Quick, at a meeting last spring, TOSCOT will become a special Education Committee of the CPCA. The Committee's activities will include continuing to deliver the Diploma program in Coatings Technology and other forms of technical education.

Meetings with the CPCA will be taking place in the coming days to work out many of the details of the transition. Our goal is to have all the details of the merger worked out and the transition completed by the end of this fiscal year. Throughout, our goal is to have the transition process be as transparent as possible to TOSCOT members.

Many of the details that have to be ironed out involve membership. At this time, the plan is that any TOSCOT member whose company is a member in good standing of the CPCA will not have to pay any membership fees to join TOSCOT. Likewise, any current CPCA member who is a member of the Federation of Societies of Coatings Technology (FSCT) will not have to pay the TOSCOT portion of the annual fee.

For now, however, it is business as usual. We will continue to carry out our regular activities, such as the Annual Christmas Luncheon on December 3rd and keep you informed of any developments as they occur.
